Jane Taylor Reenactor Guild

About the Jane Taylor Reenactor Guild
The Jane Taylor Reenactor Guild is named for Jane Taylor, originator of the reenactors group that was part of the James Beckwourth Mountain Club. The museum’s volunteers are honored to continue her mission of keeping the legacy of Black Americans alive through historical reenactments. We tell stories of people who settled the west and made their mark in American History even if they may not appear in history books.
When reenactors bring history to life, it is more than putting on a costume, each actor researches the historic character in depth and develops an intimate understanding of that person’s life and motivations. The actor embodies the speech and mannerisms to enhance the audience’s experience. Each costume is created to transform the actor into their historic character.
Reenactments allow students to better understand the nuances of social attitudes throughout history. We encourage our young people to engage with and participate in reenactments. We are always looking for new members, children to adults!
Who would you like to be?
Cowboy Nat Love, U.S. Deputy Marshal Bass Reeves? Maybe Madame C J Walker, first female self-made millionaire?
There’s a historic character waiting for you to tell their story!
