The Black American West Museum & Heritage Center shares the social, cultural, political, and economic impact of Black pioneers in the American West through its preservation of objects, photographs, documents, and oral histories.
The museum is developing a catalog of our artifacts, thanks to a grant from the Institute for Museums and Library Services (IMLS). Stay tuned for updates as we continue to make the museum’s archives more accessible.
Donating to the Collection
We only accept select items that directly contribute to the history of African Americans in the American West. If you have an item you wish to donate in the future, please email us with a brief description and a photograph.
- If the museum staff has agreed to see an item for examination, a Receipt for Deposit form is required.
- If the museum staff has agree to accept an item for donation, a Deed of Gift form is required.
- Important: Do not leave any items at the museum without prior approval. Unapproved items will be considered abandoned property and will be disposed of.
We are not currently accepting any donations to our collection until after June 2026.
